You will own communications planning and response for emerging issues, reputational risks, and sensitive topics across Preply. This role bridges reactive crisis management and proactive reputation building, working closely with Corporate Communications & PR, Legal, Trust & Safety, Customer Experience, Product, People, and senior leadership.
Key responsibilities:
**Issues & Reputation Management**: Identify and assess emerging issues affecting Preply's reputation among key stakeholders. Develop communications strategies for complex or sensitive issues across the business, products, and marketplace. Synthesize information from relevant teams to establish facts quickly and translate operational, legal, or technical complexity into clear external communications. Provide clear recommendations on when to respond, monitor, escalate, or take no action.
**Proactive Response**: Draft and coordinate responses to emerging conversations across channels. Build a centralized library of approved messaging, talking points, statements, FAQs, holding lines, and Q&As for recurring and emerging reputation topics. Adapt messaging for different audiences and channels while maintaining consistency. Identify patterns in incoming questions, complaints, and external conversations to recommend clearer communications or proactive intervention.
**Crisis Preparedness & Response**: Develop and maintain Preply's crisis communications framework, protocols, and escalation processes. Identify highest-priority reputational risk scenarios and develop communications playbooks. Advise internal stakeholders on reputational implications of decisions and policies before escalation. Establish clear roles, decision-making processes, and communications workflows. Lead crisis simulations and tabletop exercises. Coordinate communications during significant incidents and conduct post-incident reviews.
**Reputation Monitoring & Intelligence**: Monitor media, social platforms, review sites, and other channels for conversations involving Preply. Develop a structured approach for assessing issues by severity, velocity, credibility, audience, reach, and potential impact. Distinguish between isolated complaints, recurring themes, and escalation risks. Identify patterns across learner, tutor, employee, and public conversations signaling reputation vulnerabilities. Produce regular reputation and risk reporting for Communications and senior stakeholders.
**Media & External Communications**: Co-manage media inquiries involving sensitive or reputationally complex topics. Develop response strategies and messaging for journalists covering sensitive issues. Prepare spokespeople for challenging interviews. Partner with Corporate Communications on reputational issues intersecting with proactive media activity. Ensure responses are consistent, factual, and aligned across markets and channels.
**Cross-Functional Partnership**: Build strong relationships across Legal, Trust & Safety, Customer Experience, Product, People, and Brand teams. Establish processes for teams to escalate emerging issues early. Bring a reputation lens to product, policy, and business discussions. Build relationships with subject-matter experts for rapid fact-establishment and response. Balance legal, operational, customer, and communications considerations. Help build a culture where reputation is considered proactively.
