Check is rebuilding payroll infrastructure by powering businesses that process payroll at scale. As an embedded payroll platform, Check serves thousands of employers across all industries. The Risk Analyst role owns company reviews, payroll monitoring, and fraud escalation with precision and clear communication across internal teams and external partners. This is a hands-on position where you'll analyze data to identify emerging risk signals, mitigate fraud incidents (account takeover, first-party fraud, impersonation), and drive resolutions with cross-functional teams. Key responsibilities include executing company reviews and payroll monitoring processes, spotting and acting on risk signals through data analysis, documenting fraud insights, contributing to process improvements and documentation, and supporting ad hoc analyses alongside senior analysts. You'll build deep domain expertise in payroll risk and fintech compliance while working in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. Ideal candidates bring 1–3 years of risk and fraud investigation experience or similar fintech analytics background. You should be detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple investigations simultaneously, and comfortable making judgment calls under ambiguity. Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders are essential. SQL experience is a plus but not required. An AI-adopter mindset and willingness to learn new tools are valued. The role requires attendance at the annual 3-day company offsite in spring. Check is distributed across the US with offices in New York City and San Francisco. Remote employees must perform all responsibilities without distraction while maintaining quality communication and productivity.
