Distro seeks a Retirement Benefits Manager to lead a team of Retirement Benefits Specialists and Senior Retirement Benefits Specialists in supporting multiple 401(k) Multiple Employer Plans (MEP), Pooled Employer Plans (PEP), and client-sponsored retirement plans. This role reports to the VP of Retirement Benefits and is central to MEP/PEP operations, plan compliance, client and participant support, retirement-related payroll, plan mergers, and new plan setup within payroll software systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Direct supervision, coaching, and performance management of Retirement Benefits Specialists and Senior Specialists
- Oversight of team administration of retirement plans, ensuring compliance with plan provisions, ERISA, and internal controls (contributions remittance, year-end testing, plan document review, corrections)
- Escalation point for complex plan questions, coordinating with vendors, auditors, and internal stakeholders
- Subject matter expertise and support for 401(k) administration to internal and external customers
- Identification and implementation of process improvements to enhance team productivity, quality, and regulatory compliance
- Coordination with Vensure's retirement vendors for due diligence, service-level monitoring, and issue resolution
- Cross-departmental collaboration with Payroll, Client Relations, Sales, and Benefits for integrated plan administration
- Leadership and support for MEP/PEP mergers of acquired companies into Vensure 401(k) plans
- Support for annual 401(k) plan audits and Form 5500 filings in coordination with Third-Party Administrators, recordkeepers, and auditors
- Regular onsite attendance required for secure system access, sensitive technical collaboration, operational meetings, and hands-on involvement
The role demands strong decision-making in high-pressure situations, proven ERISA knowledge, team leadership vision, and the ability to inspire and motivate. Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to learn additional applications. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication, sound judgment, confidentiality, and ethical conduct with sensitive financial and employee information.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree or equivalent combination of experience, skills, education, certifications, or job training programs (preferred)
- 5+ years of experience focused on 401(k) plan administration (required)
- 1–3+ years of leadership experience (supervisory or lead role) required, preferably in retirement or benefits operations
- Third-Party Administration (TPA) experience (preferred)
- Multiple Employer Plan (MEP) or Pooled Employer Plan (PEP) experience (a plus)
- Retirement-related credentials such as QKA, RPA, ASPPA, or CEBS (a plus)
- Professional Employer Organization (PEO) experience (a plus)
