Altos Labs is seeking a Research Specialist or Scientist to join their discovery team investigating the role of metabolism in aging and cellular rejuvenation. This role combines in vitro and in vivo research, requiring independent execution of rigorous experiments across primary cell cultures and rodent systems.
Key responsibilities include designing and executing in vivo rodent metabolic studies (animal handling, dosing via multiple routes, glucose/insulin tolerance tests, CLAMS metabolic monitoring, and tissue collection optimized for multi-omics analysis). You will perform immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry on cultured cells and metabolic tissues (liver, adipose, muscle), operating fluorescence, confocal, and high-content imaging systems to visualize lipid droplets, mitochondrial morphology, and protein localization.
You will design and execute metabolic flux assays on the Agilent Seahorse XF analyzer, prepare cellular and tissue extracts for mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, lipidomics, and genomics workflows (RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR). Data analysis and interpretation using Wave, ImageJ/FIJI, and GraphPad Prism will guide experimental direction. You will maintain primary metabolic cell cultures, develop and optimize cell-based assays, and maintain rigorous electronic laboratory notebook records.
Communication of results through written summaries, presentations, manuscripts, and conference presentations is essential. You will collaborate across the discovery team to align in vitro mechanism-of-action findings with in vivo efficacy readouts and coordinate sample tracking with internal teams and external CROs.
Minimum qualifications: PhD in molecular biology, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related life sciences with metabolism focus and 0–2 years post-PhD experience; OR Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant hands-on industry research experience in metabolism. Required: hands-on experience across both in vitro and in vivo workflows, direct experience designing and executing in vivo rodent studies with IACUC protocol compliance, experience preparing samples for metabolomics/lipidomics/genomics pipelines, demonstrated immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry and microscopy experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
