Relativity Space is building the Terran R rocket to deliver payloads to orbit and advance space exploration. The Propulsion team develops highly performant and manufacturable engines, with engineers owning the full lifecycle from design through production, qualification, and flight.
As a Propulsion Engineer II focused on Engine Base Heatshield, you will own the design, development, and test of Aeon-R heatshield components. The Aeon-R engines require robust Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) hardware to withstand extreme thermal environments and loads during entry, descent, and landing. Your work is critical to enabling the survival and reuse of Aeon-R engines and Terran R first stages.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, analyze, develop, test, and qualify heatshield hardware for multiple engine and flight configurations
- Leverage development testing and flight data to continuously iterate upon hardware designs
- Analyze and troubleshoot post-flight conditions to assess reusability and drive future improvements
- Partner closely with peer engineers across Propulsion and Vehicle organizations to optimize mechanical interfaces
- Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to transition designs from development to production
- Contribute to design for manufacturability and mass production strategies
You will work in a culture emphasizing bottoms-up decision-making, ownership, and accountability at all levels. The team is currently advancing the flight configuration through qualification while exploring modifications for future engines, including thrust upgrades and new cycles.
