Cloudflare is seeking a Principal Customer Engineer based in Canberra to serve as a trusted technical advisor and quota-carrying technologist driving the company's technical go-to-market strategy. You will own the complete customer lifecycle from initial discovery through long-term adoption and expansion, partnering closely with Account Executives and internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include leading technical discovery and proof-of-concept engagements across Cloudflare's Security, Networking, and Developer Platforms portfolios. You will act as a strategic technical advisor, maintaining deep relationships with key customer stakeholders and translating their evolving business goals into product adoption strategies. The role carries direct commercial accountability with a variable quota tied to new business acquisition and account expansion.
You will leverage AI-augmented workflows to automate routine administrative tasks—such as RFP responses, sandbox provisioning, and telemetry monitoring—freeing your time for high-value architectural design and strategic customer advisory. You'll lead technical Quarterly Business Reviews with C-level executives, translating platform capabilities into measurable ROI and identifying cross-sell and upsell opportunities based on usage data.
Required qualifications include extensive experience in customer-facing technical roles (Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Forward Deployed Engineering). You must have broad technical expertise spanning web security, networking (routing, DNS, DDoS mitigation), cloud infrastructure, and enterprise architecture. A proven track record in quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environments is essential, along with strong SaaS business acumen and exceptional presentation and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred qualifications include hands-on experience with Cloudflare's developer platform and ecosystem. The ideal candidate combines deep technical depth with commercial mindset, thriving in fast-paced environments where iteration and AI-native problem-solving are core to the culture.
