Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical earth observation data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. As a PreSales Engineer focused on Civil Government and Commercial markets in EMEA, you will be the technical bridge between Planet's satellite imagery and data platform capabilities and customer needs, particularly for UK Government and B2B commercial organizations. You will use consultative selling techniques to uncover customer pain points and business requirements, then build and deliver technical presentations and solution demonstrations that highlight how Planet's platform addresses those challenges. You'll act as a trusted advisor, shaping tailored solution architectures that deliver measurable business value. Your responsibilities include collaborating with sales teams on account strategy, responding to tenders and RFPs, and working cross-functionally with Customer Success, Product Management, and Professional Services to represent the voice of the customer. You will mentor junior presales engineers in your specialist areas and lead training sessions to build team capability. The role requires deep expertise in geospatial software (QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL), Python programming for imagery processing and API integration, and the ability to translate complex remote sensing requirements into clear, value-driven solutions. You'll manage quarterly and annual sales objectives and interface with the global presales community to improve technical and sales skills. This is a hybrid role based in Berlin, requiring 3 days per week in the office. You'll work with international government and commercial customers, requiring excellent communication and coordination skills. The ideal candidate has 4+ years supporting governments or earth observation communities, a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, and professional English proficiency. Experience writing technical proposals for German government tenders and familiarity with value/solution selling techniques are highly valued.
