Planet is seeking a Director of Pre-Sales for Global Defence & Intelligence to lead a worldwide team of Pre-Sales Solution Architects. This is a strategic, highly visible role focused on delivering technical sales excellence and solution architecture to national security, defence, and intelligence institutions globally. You will be responsible for recruiting, coaching, and developing a specialized global team of D&I Pre-Sales Solution Architects. Your mission is to provide trusted technical advice enabling defence customers to leverage Earth Observation data and geospatial intelligence for military operations, decision-making, and strategic outcomes. Key responsibilities include: leading high-impact customer engagements and technical demonstrations for defence commanders and procurement officers; applying deep expertise in remote sensing, imagery analytics, and complex data architecture to design ISR-focused solutions; collaborating with Global Professional Services and Product teams to ensure rigorous technical assessments and flawless execution; feeding customer insights and use cases back to Product and Marketing to shape roadmap; and serving as a core member of the Global Pre-Sales & Services leadership team. You will support global D&I sales teams and partner ecosystems in winning new defence programs and expanding existing accounts. The role requires navigating complex government sales cycles, RFP/RFI processes, and defence contracting frameworks while engaging senior defence executives and military leaders. Required qualifications: 8+ years relevant work experience with 6+ years managing and scaling technical sales teams; 8+ years in Defence & Intelligence environments; active security clearance or eligibility; solid grasp of military planning and intelligence workflows; fluency in geospatial system architectures, cloud environments, and data pipelines; and excellent communication and leadership skills. Preferred: military/veteran experience, familiarity with sales qualification frameworks (Challenger Sales, MEDDPICC), and understanding of AI-driven capabilities. This is a full-time remote position based in UK or Germany, with expectation of 3 days/week office attendance if located near an office.
