HuffPost, a subsidiary of BuzzFeed, is seeking an experienced Politics Reporter to cover the conservative movement, the Republican Party, and right-wing media. This is a union position covered by the Writers Guild of America East collective bargaining agreement.
You will break important news on the conservative movement—covering MAGA media stars, White House power players, influential think tanks, and emerging trends on the right. Your responsibilities include writing deeply reported, buzzy stories on topics driving political discussion; appearing on TV, radio, podcasts, and social media to promote your work; traveling extensively to cover elections; and collaborating with the politics team and broader newsroom.
The ideal candidate brings at least 5 years of political reporting experience with a proven track record of breaking news and building sources within conservative circles. You should have extensive knowledge of American conservatism, its key figures, and the forces that drive and divide the movement, with the ability to convey complex topics to everyday readers. Strong news judgment, intellectual curiosity, deep sourcing in national politics, and the ability to write cleanly on deadline are essential. You should be brimming with interesting and important story ideas.
Candidates based in Washington, D.C. or New York are strongly preferred, though exceptional applicants elsewhere will be considered. You may also be asked to participate in presentations, candidate screening, or recruitment events on behalf of the company.
