Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming sustainable grazing practices. The company uses precision technology to enable farmers and graziers to run productive, sustainable operations without traditional constraints like quad bikes, dogs, or fences.
This role is a People & Performance Partner embedded within the Go to Market (GTM) and Customer teams in Auckland. You'll operate as a genuine commercial partner—not a peripheral HR function—working closely with managers to develop performance, strengthen leadership, and navigate complexity early.
Day-to-day responsibilities include: coaching managers through difficult conversations, handling early employment relations matters with confidence, identifying patterns before they escalate into problems, and building clarity and accountability into team operations. You'll carry signal upward and bring perspective downward, reporting to the Head of Partnering - GTM and working alongside a tight team of performance partners.
The role demands commercial judgment, direct communication, and the ability to navigate people challenges without a set playbook. You'll operate in a high-performance environment where feedback is direct, expectations are clear, and standards don't drop for comfort. The company operates by principles of absolute ownership, max velocity, first-principles thinking, and high accountability.
Halter is office-first (not office-only) with a high-trust culture. The company is backed by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, and others. Benefits include 6 months fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers, 4 weeks for secondary caregivers, unlimited paid annual leave, wellness leave, $1,000 annual self-development budget, and an employee stock ownership plan.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- HR experience preferred but not required; the company is open to candidates who've developed relevant skills in less traditional ways (e.g., roles requiring commercial judgment, clear communication, and navigating people challenges without established playbooks).
- Must think commercially and hold high standards even when easier not to.
- Ability to challenge directly while caring personally.
- Comfort moving at pace, making calls with incomplete information, and bringing precision over process.
- Strong ability to distinguish signal from noise.
- Thrives in ambiguity and high-performance environments; energized by real problems rather than structured process management.
- Not suited for candidates seeking highly structured environments or primarily policy/process administration roles.
