Curana Health, a national leader in value-based care for seniors founded in 2021, is seeking a Payroll Tax Lead to serve as a senior subject matter expert within the payroll team. The company operates 1,500+ senior living communities and skilled nursing facilities across 32 states, serving 200,000+ seniors with on-site primary care, ACOs, and Medicare Advantage SNPs. The Payroll Tax Lead will own multi-state federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance for a complex, growing workforce. Key responsibilities include managing employee and employer tax withholding, deposits, filings, and reconciliations; coordinating quarterly and year-end activities (Forms 941, 940, W-2, W-2C, amendments); managing payroll tax registrations, agency notices, audits, and penalties; monitoring regulatory changes to ensure system compliance; identifying root causes of payroll tax issues and driving corrective actions; evaluating external payroll tax vendor performance; supporting M&A diligence and integration; and developing payroll tax reporting with recommendations on compliance risks and improvement opportunities. Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, HR, or related field; minimum 5 years payroll tax experience in multi-state environments with deep knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws; hands-on experience with payroll tax filings, reconciliations, registrations, amendments, agency notices, and year-end reporting; enterprise payroll platform and payroll tax provider experience; strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Preferred: Workday Payroll or ADP payroll/tax experience; M&A or large-scale organizational change support; healthcare or regulated industry background; CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification or equivalent.
