As a Payments Risk Analyst I on Coinbase's Payments Risk team, you will serve as a frontline defender against payments fraud across the platform. This role focuses on protecting millions of customers from chargebacks, ACH abuse, wire disputes, and account takeovers through detailed investigation and process optimization.
Key responsibilities include owning end-to-end fraud investigations of escalated customer accounts, identifying and mitigating payments fraud risks across multiple channels. You will analyze fraud trends and patterns in payment activities, delivering actionable insights to Payments Risk leadership that improve detection accuracy and strengthen automated defenses. Collaboration with the Payments Risk investigations team is central to the role—you'll provide feedback on rule performance and risk logic to continuously enhance the platform's fraud detection capabilities.
You will drive meaningful process improvements by identifying workflow inefficiencies and recommending changes that reduce risk exposure while increasing operational throughput. As transaction volumes scale, you'll support the development and documentation of review processes to ensure operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate brings 1+ years of experience in payments risk, fraud analysis, or risk operations within financial services, fintech, or e-commerce, with demonstrated ownership of fraud case investigations. Hands-on experience with payments systems (ACH, wire, card networks) and fraud detection methodologies is essential, including chargeback management and dispute resolution workflows. You should have proven investigative ability to identify fraud patterns, root causes, and systemic vulnerabilities from account-level data. Familiarity with blockchain analytics tools or cryptocurrency fraud trends is valued, or demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in technical domains. The role emphasizes responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
