Impulse is seeking an experienced Opto-Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and execution of manufacturing processes for precision optical assemblies destined for space applications, including star trackers, cameras, and sun sensors.
In this role, you will own the end-to-end build and testing of optical assembly production, working closely with optical design engineers, quality teams, and production technicians. Your core responsibilities include developing and documenting manufacturing processes for complex opto-mechanical assemblies, optimizing metrology processes to ensure precision and reliability, and designing specialized tooling for lens alignment and camera sub-assembly integration.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles are applied to custom spherical and aspherical optical components. Your expertise in optical metrology—including centration measurements, interferometry, and wavefront sensing—will be critical to maintaining the high precision standards required for space-grade systems.
Day-to-day, you will support the production floor by resolving build issues, updating work instructions, improving yields, and providing technical guidance to opto-mechanical technicians. You will also own environmental and functional testing protocols, including optical, vibration, and thermal testing in production.
This is a senior individual contributor role with significant technical scope and mentorship responsibilities. You will directly impact the reliability and performance of systems deployed into orbit and beyond.
