The Operations Manager is a critical on-site role at HIVED's depot facilities, accountable for site performance during assigned shifts. You will lead the primary sort operations for the middle-mile hub, ensuring arrivals are unloaded, sorted, and cross-docked according to Network team plans while maintaining high quality and safety standards. This is a hands-on leadership position managing 10-20+ team members throughout your shift rotation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading shift operations and managing diverse team members to deliver exceptional under-roof performance
- Serving as the Site Lead's primary support with strong handover communication
- Labour planning for week-ahead and night shifts
- Managing day-to-day sortation activities and preparation
- Succession planning for week-ahead and 6-week outlook
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives and developing operating procedures
- Ensuring adherence to Network team plans, on-time driver dispatch, and correct vehicle loading
- Overseeing all in-depot activities: people management (labour pool, engagement, succession planning), safety (auditing, incident reporting), quality (SLA, dispatch timing), and cost control (labour planning, throughput per hour)
The role operates on a 4 days on, 3 days off shift pattern, requiring one weekend day per rotation. You will report to the Site Leader and are classified as a level 5 operations role.
Requirements:
- 4-8 years' experience leading fast-paced dispatch and middle-mile operations
- Strong command of driver operations, route execution, and dispatch accuracy
- Hands-on shift leadership capability managing 10-20+ staff
- Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members
- High urgency mindset with strong communication and escalation habits
- Comfortable solving real-time operational challenges during peak windows
- Excellent cross-functional stakeholder management skills
