Lindblad Expeditions, a pioneer in expedition travel since 1966, is seeking an Onboard Sales Specialist to join its National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions fleet. This role is based onboard ships and involves engaging with guests to inspire and sell future expeditions while maintaining exceptional customer relationships.
You will actively promote and sell future trips to guests through personal engagement, storytelling, and knowledge of upcoming expeditions. Key responsibilities include:
• Sales & Promotion: Leverage personal engagement and storytelling to promote future voyages, using promotional offers and the unique experiences offered by National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions.
• Guest Engagement: Seek opportunities to engage with guests through dining, shore excursions, and personalized information about future journeys and destinations.
• Product Knowledge: Stay informed about upcoming expeditions, new itineraries, special offers, and be a knowledgeable ambassador for all voyages.
• Onboard Presentations: Conduct informative presentations and one-on-one consultations to inspire future bookings.
• Onboard Marketing: Promote future expeditions and ensure promotional campaigns are properly displayed and executed.
• Bookings & Follow-up: Handle bookings directly while coordinating with reservations and sales teams ashore; follow up on leads with excellent customer service.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Expedition Leader, Hotel Manager, and shoreside teams.
• Market Intelligence: Gather guest feedback to shape future offerings and develop new itineraries.
• Reporting: Track sales metrics and provide regular updates on guest interest, conversions, and booking feedback.
• Shipboard Duties: Support embarkation/disembarkation processes, assist with guest check-in, manage cabin collateral, support base camp operations, participate in mandatory drills, and assist with guest questions.
Work Schedule: Rotational schedule ranging from 2–4 months depending on ship assignment. You will work varying daily shifts averaging 10 hours per day over a 7-day work week. You will be assigned a single cabin with no roommate for the full rotation. The vessel operates in remote locations with limited or no port access, so cell service and internet may be unavailable for extended periods.
Physical Demands: Ability to live and work onboard for a total of 8 months within the year; willingness to travel to remote locations; ability to stand for extended periods, move between decks, and occasionally participate in field excursions.
Requirements:
• 4-year college degree or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of sales experience with proven success in a customer-facing sales role, preferably in travel, tourism, or adventure sectors
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with ability to inspire and engage diverse guests; English required (written and verbal)
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
• Service-oriented mindset with ability to tailor conversations to individual guest interests
• Ability to work independently, meet sales targets, and maintain professionalism
• Ability to collaborate effectively with onboard staff, expedition teams, and shoreside departments
• Comfortable working in dynamic, fast-paced environments and living onboard a ship for extended periods
• Excellent administrative and detail-oriented skills with strong time management
• Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Knowledge of Seaware (cruise reservations system) and Salesforce (CRM) highly preferred
• Deep enthusiasm for expedition-style travel and genuine passion for National Geographic-Lindblad destinations
• Valid Passport (US Passport or Permanent Resident Card preferred)
• Medical Certificate (required)
• Maritime Security Awareness (required)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience working onboard ships or in travel/tourism industry
• Familiarity with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions' offerings
• Experience with public speaking, presentations, or educational outreach
