Rigetti Computing, a pioneer in full-stack quantum computing, is seeking a Network & Infrastructure Engineer to own hands-on networking and physical infrastructure work across its Berkeley labs and Fremont fabrication facility, while also supporting AWS cloud environments and infrastructure-as-code practices.
This is a hybrid role that flexes between traditional network and data center work and cloud infrastructure/DevOps work as priorities shift. You'll work with an unusually complex network for a company of Rigetti's size: an AWS-backed cloud platform, redundant connectivity, a fabrication facility with segmented security environments, and labs full of specialized quantum equipment. You'll be building new infrastructure as the company expands lab and fab space and scales its fleet of quantum systems, not just maintaining existing systems.
Key responsibilities include owning the network across Berkeley labs and Fremont fab (including routing and connectivity into secured fabrication environments); installing, racking, cabling, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical servers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and storage; supporting IT and infrastructure with cable management, hardware maintenance, and software configuration; providing hands-on support at both locations; troubleshooting network issues across connectivity, hardware, software, cabling, and routing; supporting planned maintenance and upgrades; designing and standing up network infrastructure for new buildouts; completing cleanroom training as needed; and handling occasional overnight maintenance windows (roughly quarterly) and on-call rotations.
Cloud and DevOps responsibilities include assisting with planning and execution of infrastructure needs across on-premise and AWS environments; supporting creation, maintenance, upgrade, and troubleshooting of cloud and on-premise resources; building, configuring, and maintaining servers and virtual machines; applying Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform, Ansible, or similar); supporting CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows; and supporting containerized workloads (Kubernetes/Docker) where they intersect with infrastructure provisioning and networking.
You'll flex between network/physical infrastructure and cloud/DevOps work based on shifting business priorities. As expertise develops, you may recommend purchase orders, work directly with vendors, and help guide technical requirements for infrastructure buildouts.
REQUIREMENTS:
Networking & Physical Infrastructure:
- 5–8+ years of hands-on experience with physical infrastructure (servers, racks, switches, patch panels, cabling, PDUs, related data center or lab hardware)
- 5–8+ years of experience with networking concepts and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, firewalls, network security)
- 5+ years of experience with Arista, Cisco, Palo Alto, Meraki, Raritan, APC, or similar platforms
- Experience installing, configuring, upgrading, or troubleshooting physical servers, network devices, or infrastructure systems
- Ability to work on-site at both Berkeley and Fremont locations
- Must be able to lift and carry IT equipment up to 50 lbs
Cloud & DevOps:
- Hands-on experience with AWS or cloud infrastructure (provisioning, maintaining, troubleshooting)
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other Infrastructure-as-Code/automation tools (expert-level fluency ideal; working proficiency minimum)
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or containerized infrastructure (deeper hands-on experience a strong plus)
- Experience with Linux systems administration
- Experience with VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms
General:
- Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, network, operating system, and cloud layers
- Ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures, safety protocols, change-management processes, and technical documentation
Preferred: CCNA, CompTIA Network+, AWS certification, or equivalent; experience with load balancers, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks, network monitoring; CI/CD pipeline experience; data center, lab, manufacturing, semiconductor, research, or cleanroom environment experience; infrastructure buildout experience; structured cabling, fiber optics, copper Ethernet, patch panels, cable testing, rack documentation; segmented high-security network design/operation; large fleet device management (IoT, lab instrumentation, manufacturing equipment); vendor and purchase order experience.
