Saronic Technologies is seeking a Mission Operations Sustainment Engineer to support the maintenance, repair, and long-term reliability of its Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel (MUSV) platforms—low-signature autonomous vessels designed for maritime defense operations in contested littoral environments.
In this role, you will be responsible for vessel maintenance and repair across propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, and hull systems in both shore-based and forward-deployed environments. You will diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software-interfaced faults, conduct pre- and post-mission inspections, maintain technical records and maintenance logs per DoD standards, and coordinate with vendors and operators on spare parts, documentation, and safety compliance. You will also support the development and delivery of platform maintenance training courses to military personnel, including technician fundamentals, preventive and corrective maintenance, and advanced systems repair. A key aspect of this role is bridging field operations and product development: you will capture failure modes, MTBF/MTTR data, and technician feedback from testing and deployments to inform design decisions and system maintainability improvements. You will also support engagements with government customers and DoD program offices, build reporting tools for fleet health and readiness, and contribute subject-matter expertise at design reviews.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field, and possesses a valid U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer license (unlimited horsepower, oceans) with an unrestricted STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch. You should have hands-on experience maintaining marine propulsion, electrical, or mechanical systems aboard vessels in the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, or Special Operations. Experience with unmanned surface vessels, autonomous systems, or remotely operated maritime platforms is highly valued. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, the ability to work under pressure in dynamic field environments, and excellent written and verbal communication are essential. Prior Special Operations Forces experience or work with DoD agencies is a plus. You must be able to swim and tread water, lift up to 50 lbs. regularly, work in confined and elevated spaces, and possess an active security clearance or the ability to obtain one. Up to 75% travel is required for field trials, demonstrations, and customer engagements.
