Apex manufactures satellite buses (spacecraft platforms) at scale for the commercial space industry. As a Mission Operations Engineer, you will own all aspects of operating Apex's satellites throughout their lifecycle, from pre-launch planning through end-of-mission.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing mission plans and operations products for flight vehicles; owning the roadmap, processes, and operations products for one of Apex's satellite bus lines; leading spacecraft commissioning during launch and early operations; operating and monitoring satellites in real time with anomaly detection, safing, and recovery capabilities; driving fault protection strategies and automation for both onboard and ground systems; analyzing telemetry and mission data to assess spacecraft health and performance; collaborating with engineering teams to resolve anomalies and improve reliability; standardizing mission operations practices across programs; and serving as a technical mentor for junior engineers.
You will work closely with internal engineering teams and external customers to adapt Apex's productized approach to each mission's specific needs while helping shape processes, products, and spacecraft designs. This role requires strong technical depth in spacecraft systems and mission operations, plus the ability to lead critical responses under pressure.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; 3+ years of direct mission operations experience including mission planning, commissioning, and anomaly resolution; proficiency in Python, C++, or Rust; experience with software integration, testing, and validation for real-time and distributed systems; strong understanding of spacecraft subsystems (propulsion, avionics, communications); experience with telemetry data analysis and mission operations software; knowledge of satellite operations tools like STK or GMAT; excellent problem-solving and decision-making under pressure; and strong communication and customer-facing abilities. U.S. Person status required due to export control regulations.
