Perplexity AI is hiring senior engineers for its Agents team to build AI systems powering agentic experiences across products like Perplexity Computer, the Comet ecosystem, and the Agent API. The team combines backend, full-stack, and AI/ML engineers to advance frontier AI agent capabilities.
You will work on designing AI agents that navigate the digital world and perform valuable tasks for users. Key responsibilities include engineering agent harnesses that connect powerful models with environments and tools, developing training pipelines for action and decision models that determine how to accomplish user objectives, and ensuring excellent experiences across desktop, mobile, headless cloud, and other platforms.
The role spans multiple technical challenges: designing secure-by-default agentic capabilities through permission architectures and payload classifiers, optimizing data representations and interaction modes between agents and environments, and leveraging cutting-edge AI models and browser technologies to scale capabilities for a rapidly growing user base.
You'll collaborate across engineering, design, product, and data science to integrate core Perplexity functionality into frontier agentic products. The position emphasizes high craft standards in both AI agent performance and user experience, with ownership of product reliability, code quality, AI evaluation, and testing.
Required: strong foundational knowledge of the full AI product stack, Python proficiency (TypeScript, Go, or Rust a plus), and significant experience in context engineering/tool interfaces for frontier models, post-training/reinforcement learning (especially multimodal), or browser technologies (CDP, Playwright, extensions). You should have strong product intuition, thrive in small fast-moving teams, and are passionate about shipping delightful products.
