Poolside is building AI systems to accelerate software development and advance toward AGI. The Agent Experience team sits at the intersection of research, infrastructure, and product, owning the harness, skills, and tooling that power autonomous research across the organization.
In this role, you'll act as connective tissue between researchers, infrastructure engineers, and product teams. You'll design and build backend services (primarily Python and Go) that enable agents to run ablations end-to-end, distribute researcher-authored skills across workflows, and instrument agent trajectories for measurement and improvement. You'll partner closely with pre- and post-training research teams, eval teams, and infrastructure engineers to translate research workflows into self-improving agentic flows.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with researchers and infrastructure teams to design agent-native research workflows
- Building robust backend services and APIs to power agent systems
- Driving adoption of new agentic research methodologies across teams
- Creating evals and datasets to measure self-improvement capabilities
- Integrating with existing research infrastructure and building dashboards for adoption tracking
- Working with the agent harness and runtime team to define technical roadmap
You should have strong backend engineering fundamentals (architecture, API design, databases, operational excellence), demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in ambiguous contexts, and proven experience building agentic systems or harness engineering. Experience with ML research workflows (experiments, evals, training, datasets) and tools like W&B, Neptune, or Dagster is a plus.
