Salary: USD 115,000 - 150,000 / annual
Pacific Fusion, founded in 2023 and backed by over $900M in funding, is building a pulser-driven inertial fusion system to achieve net facility gain and develop affordable fusion energy solutions. We seek a Mechanical Engineer to design, build, operate, and advance our pulsed power systems—the experimental core of our fusion platform.
You will take ownership of pulsed power subsystem design and development, working across high-voltage systems, control architectures, safety protocols, and automation. Key responsibilities include designing and building high-voltage/high-current systems; operating pulsed power systems during testing campaigns (including off-hours work); ensuring safe, reliable operation; acquiring and analyzing experimental data; developing data collection and visualization tools; translating results into next-generation pulser designs; leading design reviews and technical documentation; and collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and plasma physics teams.
You bring a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field, plus 2+ years designing complex systems. You have hands-on experience prototyping mechanical and electrical systems, delivering R&D projects from concept through validation, and strong backgrounds in electronic design, control systems, and PLC software. You're proficient in circuit simulation tools (SPICE, PSCAD, COMSOL) and data analysis (Python, MATLAB), with familiarity in CAD software (SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL Multiphysics).
Bonus qualifications include an advanced degree (M.S./Ph.D.), prior experience with high-voltage pulsed systems in fusion or plasma research, hands-on diagnostics and controls integration for high-energy experiments, and knowledge of safety standards in high-voltage environments.
This is a deeply hands-on, multidisciplinary role combining technical depth with R&D leadership, system ownership, and cross-functional collaboration in a mission-driven, well-funded hard tech environment.
