Amperesand is building next-generation power infrastructure technology centered on intelligent, software-defined Solid State Transformers. The company is addressing a critical infrastructure gap: electricity demand is surging due to AI data centers, electric vehicles, and industrial growth, yet the power infrastructure backbone hasn't fundamentally changed in nearly 100 years. Amperesand's products are smaller, more efficient, faster to deploy, and capable of supporting dynamic modern energy needs compared to traditional electrical equipment.
As Materials and Process Engineer, you will own the materials and process foundation of the medium voltage Solid State Transformer platform. This is a hands-on technical role where you drive material selection, process development, and qualification for high-voltage, high-frequency, high-power-density systems. The insulation system, potting, coatings, and material interfaces are critical to product qualification and 20-year field reliability.
Key responsibilities include: selecting materials across dielectrics, polymers, resins, composites, and coatings while balancing electrical performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability; leading process development and qualification for potting, coating, casting, molding, and thin-film deposition; defining process parameters and control limits in partnership with manufacturing and quality; conducting materials characterization through in-house testing and third-party labs; leading root-cause and failure analysis on materials and process issues; sourcing and co-developing novel materials with suppliers when needed; partnering on process equipment selection; influencing system-level trade-offs across insulation design, thermal management, packaging, power density, cost, and manufacturability; ensuring scalability across product variants; and elevating materials engineering standards through rigorous design reviews and documentation.
You will partner closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams, serving as the technical authority on materials decisions across the platform. This is real hardware work with a short path from experimentation to production deployment.
