Agave is a financial operations platform for construction, a $12T global industry. Fresh off a $15M Series A led by Accel (total funding $20M+), the company is experiencing rapid growth with 550+ customers. Agave has built proprietary rails to read and write across legacy construction software systems and deploys AI for invoicing, expenses, compliance, billing, and more. The company is backed by Y Combinator and investors from Procore, Autodesk, and Plaid. The three co-founders have worked together for 12+ years, previously at Graphiq (acquired by Amazon in 2017) and Amazon.
You will be Agave's first full-time marketing hire, owning all marketing functions as the company scales from one product to a multi-product platform. This is a hands-on role where you personally execute across all channels.
Key responsibilities include:
**Positioning & Messaging:** Own positioning and messaging across the full product line as new products ship. Build and maintain sales enablement materials in partnership with sales. Own competitive differentiation as new competitors emerge.
**Channel Discovery & Optimization:** Design and run channel experiments (paid placement, AI search, lifecycle email, webinars) to find repeatable lead generation channels beyond referrals and conferences. Own and optimize SEO and AEO presence, tracking rankings and AI-answer citations. Manage site presence on G2, Capterra, and similar platforms. Operate a defined experiment budget, killing what doesn't work and scaling what does. Stand up analytics to track customer journey, SEO/AIO rankings, and funnel metrics.
**Content & Web:** Personally write and ship website content. Own the website including new pages, product pages, competitor comparison pages, and copy/design direction. Work with the website vendor to develop and ship new pages. Own content production including product announcement blogs, case studies, LinkedIn presence, monthly product newsletters, and marketing email campaigns. Maintain presence on partner sites and marketplace listings.
**Events & Field:** Own conference materials and logistics, including running 1-2 Agave events per major conference. Create marketing materials including flyers, banners, booth assets, and handouts.
**Email Marketing:** Own the customer email program end-to-end, including monthly product newsletters, new product announcements, and feature launch emails. Set up lifecycle emails triggered by in-app behavior. Build upsell campaigns introducing existing customers to products they don't use, segmented by what they own, their ERP, and how they use Agave.
The role offers outsized ownership as the first full-time marketing hire, greenfield opportunity to test new channels with construction finance buyers, direct proximity to revenue through sales partnership, and the ability to own the craft of marketing personally.
**Requirements:**
- 3+ years of marketing experience, ideally in B2B software, with hands-on range (personally run campaigns, written and shipped content, or executed events)
- Experience working on small or scrappy teams (startup or small marketing org) where you did the work yourself rather than routing to others
- Excited to be hands-on: you write copy, ship pages, and run events yourself
- Exceptional writing: clear, concrete, free of marketing fluff
- Strong experiment design: form hypothesis, define success upfront, run test, read out honestly
- Comfort partnering directly with founders and company leaders on positioning and pipeline
- Bias to ship: prefer getting a real page live this week over perfecting a strategy deck
**Nice to have:**
- Hands-on experience with Webflow
- Experience writing customer emails or working knowledge of HTML for email templates
- Experience marketing to SMB or mid-market buyers in vertical industries (construction, field services, logistics, ERPs, fintech, accounting)
- Hands-on with HubSpot, Google Analytics, SEO/AIO tooling, and modern AI content workflows
- Experience building sales enablement for multi-product platforms
- Light design skills (clean flyers, banners, social graphics)
Note: This role requires in-person work in San Francisco 5 days/week. Not a fit if you expect a team and big budget on day one, want to focus purely on strategy, need an established playbook, or prefer remote work.
