Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in high vacuum and cryogenic systems for its Advanced Infrared Solutions (AIRS) division in Hudson, NH. AIRS, acquired by Anduril in 2025, designs and manufactures world-class cooled infrared cameras and subsystems, including Integrated Dewar Cooler Assemblies (IDCAs). The company is expanding its merchant supplier business to serve the broader defense, space, and commercial industrial base.
In this role, you will own, optimize, and scale critical vacuum processing and bakeout lines for IDCA production, bridging design engineering and manufacturing. Key responsibilities include:
• Design, characterize, and optimize vacuum bakeout, pinch-off, and cryogenic processing procedures, driving continuous improvement to reduce cycle times, eliminate waste, and maximize yield.
• Serve as subject matter expert for Residual Gas Analyzer (RGA) instrumentation, analyzing mass spectra to monitor outgassing, evaluate gas composition, establish process baselines, and detect contaminants.
• Specify, source, and integrate advanced high-vacuum hardware (turbomolecular pumps, cryopumps, ion pumps, dry scroll pumps) and helium leak detectors. Design custom tooling, fixtures, and vacuum manifolds using CAD/SolidWorks.
• Lead root-cause corrective action (RCCA) investigations for complex system failures, vacuum degradation, or thermal performance issues, implementing robust CAPA.
• Author and standardize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process routers, and work instructions. Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor critical parameters.
• Partner with Design, Quality, and Facilities teams to design cleanroom-compatible processes (ISO 5/Class 100), execute equipment qualifications (IQ/OQ/PQ), and transition products from R&D to high-volume manufacturing.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline. 4+ years hands-on experience in high-vacuum or ultra-high vacuum manufacturing (semiconductor, aerospace, or cryogenics preferred). Deep understanding of vacuum physics, gas dynamics, outgassing phenomena, and material compatibility. Proficiency in helium leak detection methodology and RGA data interpretation. Experience with liquid nitrogen handling and cryogenic heat transfer. Proficiency with SolidWorks, Excel, and modern PLM/MES software. Eligible to obtain and maintain U.S. Secret security clearance.
