Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT) is seeking a Sales Engineering Manager to lead the pre-sales organization in the Western United States, with a required location in either Dallas, TX or Chicago, IL. This role combines team leadership with hands-on customer engagement, managing and mentoring a district Sales Engineering team while driving software and SaaS revenue through partner and customer relationships.
Key responsibilities include providing technical leadership to the Sales Engineering team, driving organizational excellence and identifying process improvements. You will manage account planning, pipeline creation, and opportunity funnel management in collaboration with district sales leadership and partners. The role requires performing and mentoring discovery techniques to understand customer technical, financial, and operational challenges that Commvault solutions can address. You will distill findings into compelling messaging and demonstrate Commvault's product suite through various channels including video conferencing, presentations, and whiteboarding.
You will hire, mentor, and develop Sales Engineers, focusing on team building, channel empowerment, discovery techniques, technical development, business case creation, solution architecting, and competitive product knowledge. Additional responsibilities include overseeing customer pilots and proof-of-concepts, assisting with industry speaking engagements, and maintaining awareness of industry trends and competing products. The role requires developing strong customer and partner relationships and collaborating with internal departments (sales, support, marketing, development) to ensure positive customer experiences during sales campaigns.
Required qualifications include a BS in Computer Science or related technical field (MS or MBA preferred), 5+ years in the software or storage industry, and 5+ years managing pre-sales Sales Engineers. You must have experience working with the partner community, excellent communication skills across written, verbal, and social media channels, and the ability to lead teams solving complex business and technical issues. Prior experience selling and architecting Enterprise, Infrastructure, SaaS, and Data Management solutions is essential. Specialized knowledge of cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Linux, and enterprise applications (Oracle, Exchange, SQL Server) is required. The role involves 30%+ travel within the assigned territory.
