Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT) is seeking a Sales Engineering Manager to lead the pre-sales organization in the Western United States, with a primary location in Dallas, TX or Chicago, IL. This role combines team leadership with hands-on customer engagement, driving software and SaaS revenue through effective management, mentoring, and training of Sales Engineers.
Key responsibilities include providing technical leadership to the district Sales Engineering team, driving organizational excellence and identifying improvement opportunities. You will manage account planning, pipeline creation, and opportunity funnel management in collaboration with district sales management and partners. The role requires hiring and mentoring Sales Engineers with a focus on team building, discovery techniques, technical development, solution architecting, and competitive product knowledge.
You will perform discovery to understand technical, financial, operational, and business issues that Commvault solutions can address, then distill findings into concise messaging for stakeholders. Responsibilities include proposing and demonstrating Commvault's product suite via video conferencing, presentations, and whiteboards, as well as overseeing customer pilots and proof-of-concepts. You'll develop strong customer and partner relationships, ensure technical account management best practices, and work cross-functionally with sales, support, marketing, and development teams.
The ideal candidate has a BS in Computer Science or related field (MS or MBA preferred), 5+ years in software or storage industry, and 5+ years managing pre-sales Sales Engineers. Required expertise includes Enterprise, Infrastructure, SaaS, and Data Management solutions; cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google); Linux; and enterprise applications (Oracle, Exchange, SQL Server). Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. The role requires 30%+ travel within the assigned territory and involves industry speaking engagements and social media engagement supporting Commvault messaging.
