Profound is a fast-growing AI marketing platform used by 15% of the Fortune 500 (Comcast, Estée Lauder, Walmart) and innovators like Ramp, MongoDB, and Figma. The platform consolidates marketing work—research, briefs, content, campaigns, reporting—in one place, powered by AI agents that automate reporting, draft content, audit pages, and run competitive research. Built on 2B+ real user prompts, Profound's AI Marketer identifies high-impact opportunities and continuously improves based on what works.
Profound recently introduced the "Marketing Engineer" role—a marketer who combines deep product knowledge with marketing judgment to build systems that automate manual processes. Companies like Google and Figma have adopted this role; hundreds have been certified through Profound University.
As Manager, Forward Deployed Marketing Engineers, you will lead and develop a team that embeds with Profound's largest customers and agency partners to understand their marketing workflows, identify where Profound can help, and build repeatable solutions. You'll be accountable for activation and sustained usage across your team's accounts.
Key responsibilities:
- Hire and develop marketing practitioners into effective customer-facing builders; lead onboarding and coaching.
- Stay hands-on with selected customer engagements, often working onsite with practitioners and senior marketing leaders.
- Set account-specific goals, review usage, and coach your team on performance improvements; distinguish delivery gaps from product constraints.
- Establish delivery standards: how the team understands customer needs, recommends applications, builds in Profound, evaluates outputs, and trains users.
- Coach your team on marketing judgment and customer leadership; help them assess output quality and earn trust with executives.
- Work with the partnerships team to help agencies and consultancies adopt Profound; clarify responsibilities on shared engagements.
- Coordinate with Engagement Managers on account priorities and Account Managers on commercial opportunities; allocate team time for maximum impact.
- Partner with Agent Engineering and Product teams on complex builds, reliability issues, and product barriers.
- Turn proven applications into templates, training, and playbooks for customers, partners, and internal teams.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of marketing experience (in-house, agency, consultancy, martech, or consulting). You understand marketing priorities and can judge work quality and business value. Industry or discipline expertise is a plus.
- Leadership experience managing or formally leading practitioners, ideally in customer-facing or consulting roles. You can hire and develop strong people, set clear priorities, coach customer conversations, and deliver results. Comfortable establishing how a new team operates while staying hands-on.
- Builder aptitude: comfortable learning and applying technology to marketing problems and helping others do the same. Experience with AI, automation, or marketing platforms is a strong plus; coding is not required. Can assess whether your team's work solves the customer's problem and recognize when to bring in technical expertise.
- Product depth: learn tools quickly and deeply; excited to become an expert in Profound. Will use that knowledge to coach your team and maintain high delivery standards. Profound University certification is a plus.
- Customer credibility: earn trust with practitioners and senior marketing leaders; lead executive conversations; navigate complex customer relationships. Comfortable working regularly onsite and collaborating with agency and consulting partners.
Plus factors: experience as a Marketing Engineer, working alongside agencies or consultancies, hands-on experience with HubSpot, Marketo, Braze, Segment, or Clay. Python, SQL, or JavaScript is a plus, but a track record of building matters more than a CS degree.
