OpenAI is seeking a Manager of Applied AI Architects to lead a team of senior technical leaders in the DACH region. This role bridges customer strategy and technical execution, partnering with enterprise organizations to deploy OpenAI's most capable models into production.
You will lead a team responsible for technical strategy, customer journey mapping, and production adoption across ChatGPT Enterprise, the OpenAI API, and agentic AI solutions. Working closely with Sales leadership and Account Directors, you will prioritize customer portfolios, allocate technical resources, and translate business priorities into focused use cases, credible architectures, and adoption roadmaps.
Key responsibilities include hiring and developing a high-performing team of Applied AI Architects; defining the strategy and operating model for Applied AI Architecture across Europe; partnering with Sales to prioritize accounts and establish clear technical strategies; ensuring architects serve as primary technical advisors for their portfolios; leading complex, multi-threaded customer journeys from executive vision through production deployment; coaching the team on AI architectures spanning models, applications, data, integration, security, and governance; building trusted relationships with C-suite and board-level stakeholders; mobilizing cross-functional specialists (Deployment Engineering, Product, Research, Security, Legal, Privacy) to remove blockers; establishing rigorous portfolio health metrics including technical wins, production readiness, adoption, and measurable customer impact; and translating field patterns into actionable feedback for internal teams.
You should possess deep technical acumen in modern AI systems, frontier models, agentic applications, platform technologies, software and cloud architecture, APIs, data integration, security, and enterprise deployment. You bring 10+ years in customer-facing technical roles (solutions architecture, solutions engineering, technical account leadership, AI deployment, or technical consulting) with large enterprises, plus 4+ years of people-management experience building customer-facing technical teams. You have guided enterprises from technical discovery through production adoption and measurable business impact, with outstanding executive communication skills and the ability to build credibility with CTOs, CIOs, CISOs, boards, and engineers. You can lead complex portfolios, make thoughtful resource-allocation decisions, exercise strong architectural judgment, and build partnerships across Sales, Product, Engineering, Research, Deployment, Security, Legal, and external ecosystems.
The role is based in Munich with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is offered.
