Emburse is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager (CPA required) to lead technical accounting functions, manage external and statutory audits, and oversee direct report performance at their Toronto office.
You will manage complex accounting operations across multiple domains: payroll and benefits accounting (bonus accruals, quarterly accrued PTO, domestic and international payroll reconciliations); revenue and sales accounting (ASC 606 revenue recognition, commission accounting, sales tax compliance using Avalara); and equity and share-based compensation (SBC) accounting with complete rollforward maintenance. You'll also lead special projects involving integrations, automation, and financial close optimization.
Audit and compliance responsibilities include serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors during annual financial statement and statutory audits, coordinating audit request lists (PBCs), and ensuring timely delivery of supporting documentation.
You will directly manage and mentor an Accountant II, reviewing their work on bank reconciliations, goodwill and intangibles accounting, prepaids, fixed assets, security deposits, capitalized R&D tracking, AP/No-Vendor AP reconciliations, and partner referral calculations.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in a manager or supervisory role (public accounting experience preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, including ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) and share-based compensation accounting
- Proven experience owning external audit workflows and statutory reporting
- Hands-on experience with sales tax automation platforms (e.g., Avalara)
PREFERRED:
- Experience with international payroll reconciliations and multi-entity global structures
- Experience managing capitalized R&D (ASC 350-40) and complex equity rollforwards
- Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach to coaching junior staff
