Plug is a marketplace for used electric vehicles, founded in 2023 by former Tesla executives. The company has facilitated $150M in EV sales and raised a $20M Series A led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Plug operates an AI-native platform built exclusively for EVs, connecting consumers seeking instant cash offers backed by battery-health data with dealers across the US who bid in real time on inventory. You will own lifecycle marketing strategy and execution across the entire customer journey—from initial vehicle valuation through close and beyond. Currently, this work is fragmented across Sales, RevOps, BizOps, and Marketing with no single owner. This role consolidates that responsibility and is critical to business growth. This is a senior, hands-on position. You will set strategy, write copy, and drive execution from day one with deep technical expertise in marketing automation. You'll work directly with Product, BizOps, and Sales to identify funnel issues and design solutions. Key responsibilities include: - Lead lifecycle strategy, copy, and execution for customer-facing email and SMS, replacing the current ad hoc process - Set up behavior-triggered flows to replace manual, one-off sends - Collaborate with RevOps on technical implementation, with flexibility in how much you build directly versus specify - Create content plans and editorial calendars that build trust and value over time - Transform content into nurture journeys and measure their effectiveness in moving customers through their lifecycle - Establish consistent operating rhythms, briefs, segmentation rules, QA checks, and post-campaign reviews Email and SMS are the immediate priority. Retargeting and on-site personalization (pop-ups, banners, personalized homepage content) are secondary. Success in the first six months means establishing a clear operating rhythm, owning meaningful campaigns end-to-end, launching a stronger nurture or onboarding journey with a defined test-and-measure plan, and implementing consistent processes across the team. You'll have real ownership, high autonomy, and a direct line to company outcomes. As the function grows, you're welcome to build and lead a team. Performance will be measured by funnel completion rates (reduction in drop-off between key moments), reactivation rate and time to conversion for nurtured leads, email and SMS engagement health (open rate, click-through rate, list growth, unsubscribe rate), and conversion influenced by lifecycle touchpoints. REQUIREMENTS: - 6+ years in lifecycle or retention marketing, with experience setting strategy and running campaigns independently - Hands-on experience with marketing automation platforms - Strong copywriting skills, with comfort writing and refining messaging from start to finish - Experience designing behavior-triggered, segmented campaigns - Experience working across functions with Sales and RevOps The company notes that if you don't meet every item but are excited about the work, you should still apply.
