Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking an experienced Lead Technical Writer to create and maintain user documentation for maritime and undersea systems. You will partner with the Mission Success team—a cross-functional group supporting all Anduril products—to deliver accurate, accessible documentation that reflects the quality of world-class defense systems.
In this role, you will work closely with Engineering, Operations, and subject matter experts to understand complex products, identify user workflows, and close documentation gaps. You will set the bar for tone, voice, and quality across written artifacts, ensuring front-line operators can effectively leverage advanced defense systems. Your documentation will include technical manuals, operational manuals, maintenance manuals, procedures, checklists, user guides, troubleshooting guides, and release notes.
Key responsibilities include: generating, reviewing, and editing user-focused documentation in collaboration with engineering and operations teams; researching Anduril products and scoping Tech Data deliverables for DoD Programs of Record; writing Data Modules in S1000D XML using RapidAuthor; evaluating and prioritizing documentation tasks to keep roadmaps on track; communicating risks and managing stakeholder expectations; and building a culture of technical documentation by creating processes and training for contributors.
You will identify relevant stakeholders, lead them through a documentation roadmap with established milestones, and guide teams toward finished user-facing documents that meet customer needs. You will also work with account teams to ensure contract deliverables are accurate, on-time, and properly formatted.
Required: 7+ years generating XML-based technical documentation, preferably in DoD space with Navy/Maritime program experience; ability to read engineering documentation (schematics, CAD, drawings); experience building structured content in XML (XMetal, Arbortext, or similar); strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain technical subjects simply; ability to manage autonomy, competing priorities, and tight deadlines; passion for documentation quality and user experience; eligibility to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance.
