Cardless is building infrastructure for companies to design, build, and launch their own branded financial products. The company powers credit card issuance for customers like Coinbase and Bilt, handling lending, compliance, and operations behind the scenes while partners control the customer experience. Recently raised $60M Series C (total $170M funded) and is scaling toward profitability by end of 2026.
You will own the ledger—the financial infrastructure's source of truth for every transaction and balance. This is a critical foundation for launching and scaling financial products at increasing complexity and scale.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the vision, roadmap, and priorities for the ledger; make trade-offs to support business scaling
- Define how money movement is recorded: authorizations, holds, settlements, reversals, refunds, disputes, fees, and payments across credit and debit products
- Ensure the ledger is a trusted, complete, and accurate source of truth with proper controls and reconciliation
- Build the ledger as a shared foundation across products and partners, enabling new products and money-movement types without rebuilding underlying accounting logic
- Partner deeply with engineering on ledger design, data models, system boundaries, transaction flows across authorization/payments/disputes/risk/finance, and failure handling
- Ensure reliable scaling with clear financial state, end-to-end traceability, and tooling for rapid investigation and resolution
- Build toward automated financial operations: reconciliation, balance validation, anomaly detection, and exception handling while maintaining controls
- Work with processors and bank partners on systems and integrations connecting to the ledger
You think in systems and understand how ledger decisions cascade across risk, finance, operations, compliance, and customer experience. You're technically strong, comfortable diving deep with engineers on data models and edge cases, and you understand the rigor required when moving and accounting for money—you don't trade accuracy, reliability, controls, or auditability for speed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Built or owned a ledger, core banking system, or issuing processor at a bank, neobank, processor, or BaaS platform
- Excited about how AI and automation can transform financial infrastructure and operations
- Technically strong; comfortable going deep on data models, transaction lifecycles, system boundaries, failure modes, and edge cases in money movement
- Systems thinker who understands how infrastructure decisions affect risk, finance, operations, compliance, and customer experience
- Understand how infrastructure decisions translate to better products; can solve today's needs while building expandable capabilities
- Understand the rigor of building systems that move and account for money
