ID.me is a digital identity wallet platform serving 152+ million users across 20 federal agencies, 45 state government agencies, and 70+ healthcare organizations. The company provides NIST 800-63-3 certified identity verification and authentication services.
As Lead Designer for Design Systems, you will shape how ID.me's brand is experienced across all touchpoints, particularly during brand evolution. You serve as the strategic bridge between product design, brand expression, and systems thinking, working directly with the CMO, CEO, and design leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
**Strategic Brand Integration**: Collaborate with executive leadership to embed brand values and vision into the design system. Translate abstract brand concepts (tone, character, purpose) into practical, reusable components. Ensure the design system functions as both a brand representation and a functional toolkit for consistency and user experience.
**Design Systems Development**: Lead transformation of brand values into scalable design elements including color systems, typography, motion, iconography, and interaction models. Work with brand and design teams to refine visual language that balances personality with usability and accessibility. Guide application through ongoing brand evolution during product launches and refreshes.
**Cross-Disciplinary Leadership**: Act as connector between brand and product teams, balancing emotional resonance and storytelling with usability, functionality, and user-centered design principles. Champion integration of brand identity into product design while maintaining business goals, user needs, and technical feasibility.
**Systems Scaling & Governance**: Develop and maintain frameworks including design tokens, Figma libraries, and documentation. Create governance models ensuring effective adoption across teams while empowering creative expression. Lead continuous evolution of the design system to meet organizational and user demands.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration**: Serve as primary point of contact for design system initiatives, ensuring effective collaboration between design, engineering, and product teams on component implementation.
ID.me maintains a full-time, in-office culture with five days per week on-site at the Mountain View, CA office (or other company locations: McLean VA, NYC, Tampa FL).
