Kindred is a members-only home swapping platform that has grown to 300,000+ members across 150+ cities since launching in 2022. The company has raised over $150M from top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, and NEA, and is backed by founders from Opendoor, Figma, and ClassPass.
As Lead Copywriter, you'll be Kindred's first in-house copywriting hire, reporting to the Head of Growth. This is a hands-on, strategic role that consolidates Kindred's copy function—currently distributed across agencies and freelancers—into a single, distinctive voice.
You'll own copy execution across all touchpoints: lifecycle communications, social media, paid channels, in-product messaging, and brand positioning. You'll establish and evolve Kindred's voice guidelines to ensure consistency from push notifications to homepage headlines to Meta ads. You'll translate complex narratives and messaging priorities from leadership into clear, compelling language that resonates with members.
Key responsibilities include writing and reviewing all Kindred copy; building brand voice and tone frameworks; managing agency partners and defining QA processes; and partnering cross-functionally with Product Marketing, Lifecycle, Creative, Social, Performance Marketing, and Product teams to ensure every channel pulls from the same narrative.
You'll need 8+ years of copywriting experience with a portfolio demonstrating both sharp execution and strategic thinking. You must have built or significantly evolved a voice and tone guide that others actually use, and have experience managing freelancers or agencies. You're a strong collaborator who can translate strategy into language without losing nuance, scrappy enough to move forward without a fully-staffed team, and genuinely interested in travel, trust, and community.
