You will lead the engineering team building Kai, Airwallex's AI assistant designed to help customers accomplish complex financial work with speed and control. This is a hands-on leadership role where you own technical design, execution, and people leadership for the Kai engineering team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing a team of AI, backend, and frontend engineers with clear expectations, inclusive culture, and technical mentorship
- Defining and evolving technical architecture for agent orchestration, context retrieval, tool integrations, identity/access control, observability, and evaluation systems
- Delivering production-grade AI features from discovery through launch, establishing success metrics and using real-world feedback for continuous improvement
- Building repeatable evaluation practices for task success, groundedness, tool use, safety, and domain-specific failure modes
- Driving engineering excellence across service design, APIs, data pipelines, reliability, performance, cost efficiency, testing, and incident response
- Partnering with Product, Design, Data, and Security teams to translate business needs into secure customer experiences
- Championing robust authentication, authorization, permission checks, and human-in-the-loop patterns for agent actions
- Creating reusable agent platforms, developer tooling, and engineering standards for multiple teams
You bring 8+ years of software engineering experience including 2+ years leading or mentoring engineers, with a track record of building strong teams and delivering complex products end-to-end. You have deep experience designing and operating scalable agentic architecture and understand the engineering realities of retrieval, model integration, and agent workflows in production environments.
