Salary: USD 109,725 - 193,620 / annual
STOKE Space is building Nova, a fully reusable launch vehicle designed for daily flight operations. As a Launch Engineer - Mechanical (GSE Mechanisms), you will be responsible for the development, fabrication, testing, and initial operations of ground support equipment (GSE) mechanisms at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This role is critical to enabling high-cadence launch operations for the Nova vehicle.
You will design, fabricate, test, and support operations for mechanisms used in launch operations. Key responsibilities include working closely with Reliability Engineers, technicians, and vendors to plan, coordinate, and execute fabrication, preparation, testing, and installation of GSE at the launch site. You will collaborate with Nova Vehicle Engineers and Designers to establish requirements and interfaces, and coordinate with other GSE disciplines (Hydraulic, Electrical, Controls, Fluids) for integrated design. You will also generate, execute, and maintain workflow documentation.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of experience designing, building, and testing large mechanisms, a Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or similar field. You must be proficient with NX/Teamcenter or similar 3D CAD and configuration control management software, and with Ansys, Femap, or other FEM analysis tools. Strong understanding of design for manufacturing, machining, welding, GD&T, and design-fabrication processes is essential. Familiarity with hydraulics, pressurized systems, and mechanical industrial standards (ASME, AWS) is required. You should be able to troubleshoot problems, implement solutions in real time, prioritize work on short timelines, and communicate effectively.
Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of experience as an engineer at a launch site or facility supporting launch hardware, experience with T-0 Release Devices, proficiency with AFSPCMAN 91-710 and Space Force range requirements, and experience with P&IDs and hydraulic schematics. ITAR compliance required (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident). Willingness to relocate to Cape Canaveral is required.
