Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for enterprise customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The company operates a large-scale distributed payment infrastructure serving hundreds of engineering teams.
You will join the Platform Engineering organization, specifically the Application Services team, which is responsible for building foundational capabilities that enable other engineering teams across Adyen to develop exceptional products. The team focuses on platform-wide, business-agnostic building blocks including secret management, service discovery, and feature flag frameworks.
In this role, you will develop core applications that serve as foundational components for nearly every other engineering team at Adyen. You'll drive medium-sized development projects collaborating with other engineers and stakeholders, working closely with product managers to identify common capabilities needed across the organization. You'll design and evolve APIs used company-wide, partnering with internal teams to understand pain points and opportunities for improvement.
Your responsibilities include architecting resilient solutions spanning multiple data centers to ensure high availability and performance, managing deployment and monitoring of live applications, and tracking key metrics to optimize system performance. You'll research how engineers across Adyen use and interact with your work, and mentor junior team members as they grow.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of backend software development experience, proficiency in Java with solid JVM understanding, experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, and proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools. You should have a strong understanding of distributed systems, a product-oriented approach to software development, and willingness to operate, deploy, and troubleshoot applications in live production environments.
Bonus experience includes working with large-scale distributed systems, familiarity with security best practices (authentication, authorization, encryption), knowledge of secret management tools or service discovery frameworks, and experience building internal products for other engineers on platform teams.
