Understory, a climate-focused insurance technology company, is seeking a VP of Casualty Insurance to lead new business development and client relationships across its growing property & casualty insurance portfolio. This is an individual contributor role focused on driving insurance sales, executing deals, and consistently meeting or exceeding quota targets. You will support new business sales efforts across P&C insurance products, including prospect research, outreach, meeting preparation, and follow-up. You'll work closely with the sales team, underwriting, and product leaders to identify and move deals through the pipeline. Key responsibilities include managing broker and client communications, driving end-to-end complex sales processes from initial introduction through quote, bind, and renewal, and maintaining accurate pipeline tracking in Salesforce. You'll analyze underwriting considerations, pricing, and risk structures to develop client-facing solutions, support renewal and expansion efforts with performance summaries and coverage updates, and develop a strong understanding of Understory's products, value proposition, and target customer segments. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience in insurance, insurtech, or client-facing brokerage roles specializing in commercial business. You should have deep experience with property & casualty insurance sales, consistently hitting or exceeding sales goals and quota. Preference is given to candidates with Captive, E&S, Dealer Open Lot, or Parametric experience. You're comfortable managing longer, complex, high-premium sales cycles, are organized and detail-oriented, and can manage multiple deals or accounts simultaneously. Strong communication skills with brokers, clients, and internal teams are essential. You're comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment with evolving processes and have experience with CRM tools, particularly Salesforce. Compensation includes a base salary commensurate with experience, variable compensation tied to sales performance, a full-time benefits package, and an equity package. If local to Madison, you'll work a hybrid schedule. Remote candidates should expect travel to HQ for team trainings and get-togethers, plus up to 50% travel for customer meetings and industry conferences.
