Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking an experienced Human Factors Engineer to join its Human Systems Integration (HSI) organization. The role focuses on applying scientific principles of human cognition, behavior, and ergonomics to design and evaluate military systems that maximize usability, safety, and efficiency for warfighters.
You will serve as the user advocate across multidisciplinary engineering teams, collaborating from initial concept design through operational deployment. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive user research, creating detailed task analyses and user workflows, planning and executing usability testing throughout program lifecycles, and performing human performance testing under varying cognitive and physical workload conditions.
The role requires expertise in human factors analyses including function allocation, workload assessment, and human error analysis. You will conduct ergonomic and anthropometric assessments, develop human-in-the-loop (HITL) evaluations, and ensure compliance with military standards (MIL-STD-1472, MIL-HDBK-46855, MIL-STD-882). You will author HSI documentation, create user personas identifying required knowledge and skills, and identify safety hazards for both operators and maintainers.
Collaboration is central: you will work with systems engineers, software developers, program managers, and customers to integrate human factors requirements into system design specifications. Additional duties include supporting training aid development, user manual creation, and identifying Manning, Personnel, and Training (MPT) requirements to support mission use cases.
Required qualifications include a minimum of 5 years as a Human Factors Engineer, Ergonomics Engineer, Industrial Engineer, or Test Engineer, plus an M.S. degree in Human Factors Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Applied Experimental Psychology, I/O Psychology, Systems Engineering, or equivalent. You must have hands-on experience with military standards, task/workflow analysis, user research and ethnographic observation, and multiple research methodologies (A/B testing, think-aloud protocols, card sorting).
