SoFi is seeking an experienced Home Equity Underwriter to support its growing lending portfolio. This is a full-file underwriting role with end-to-end ownership of credit, income, assets, collateral, conditions, and final underwriting decisions. You will partner closely with loan processors to move loans efficiently from review through clear-to-close while maintaining strong quality, compliance, and risk discipline. Key responsibilities include underwriting and decisioning home equity loan files in accordance with SoFi policies and applicable investor and regulatory guidelines. You will perform comprehensive credit risk analysis, including borrower creditworthiness, income stability, assets, and collateral evaluation. This involves reviewing and analyzing credit reports, income and asset documentation, tax returns, appraisals, title reports, and other loan documentation. You will apply independent credit judgment in a manual or semi-manual underwriting environment, independently evaluate and clear underwriting conditions to maintain pipeline momentum, and analyze self-employed borrower income including Schedule C, K-1s, partnerships, and corporate returns. You will identify potential risk, fraud, or documentation concerns and escalate appropriately, collaborate with loan processors to resolve documentation gaps, and make clear, well-documented, and defensible approval, suspension, or decline decisions. The role requires meeting established production, turn-time, quality, accuracy, and compliance expectations. You must have a minimum of 2 years of recent conventional mortgage underwriting experience with direct decision-making authority, demonstrated full-file underwriting ownership, direct appraisal and title review experience, and strong experience analyzing self-employed income and complex borrower scenarios. You should have a strong understanding of credit policy, underwriting guidelines, collateral evaluation, and risk assessment, and experience working in a compliance-driven, production-oriented environment. The role requires standard business hours aligned with Central Time and 1–2 days per week in the Frisco, Texas office.
