Anthropic is seeking a Head of Technical Training to build and lead the company's first dedicated technical instruction function. This is a player-coach role combining hands-on teaching with team leadership and program development.
You will deliver technical instruction to engineers, architects, and technical practitioners across Anthropic's onboarding and residency programs, ranging from 12-person labs to 100-person field-readiness events. You'll set the standard for technical delivery by teaching regularly and modeling excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading from the front: Deliver hands-on technical instruction and set the tone through regular teaching that demonstrates best practices.
- Building the instructor bench: Hire, onboard, manage, and develop technical instructors. Establish performance expectations and make renewal/conversion decisions.
- Setting quality standards: Define what excellent technical instruction looks like at Anthropic. Create observation rubrics, dry-run protocols, and cleared-to-teach processes.
- Scaling through certification: Design and run train-the-trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and training partners. Certify instructors against Anthropic's standards.
- Turning expertise into instruction: Partner with Technical Enablement Leads to transform technical content into effective sessions, labs, and exercises.
- Enabling programs: Work with onboarding and Training & Certification teams to staff programs with cleared instructors while owning instruction quality.
- Measuring outcomes: Establish metrics for learner outcomes and instructor quality. Review results and act on insights to continuously improve.
Required qualifications: 8+ years in software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or related roles. 4+ years of hands-on technical instruction in live settings with diverse audiences. Production engineering experience with shipped code. Recent hands-on AI development (within 3 years) building or debugging LLM applications, agents, tool use, or MCP. People leadership experience managing technical practitioners including hiring, coaching, and performance management. Experience designing or running train-the-trainer programs, instructor certification, or evaluation frameworks.
