Salary: USD 100,000 - 110,000 / annual
Vulture, a leading culture and entertainment publication under Vox Media, is seeking a Head of Social to lead its social media strategy and team. This role reports to the Managing Editor and oversees all social media operations across Vulture's editorial output, including articles, video, podcasts, games, and live events.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing social media strategies that reflect Vulture's distinctive voice and sensibility across platforms
- Creating and publishing engaging content that drives audience reach, engagement, subscription conversion, and brand building
- Managing and coaching a dedicated social media team, setting priorities and establishing clear workflows
- Analyzing social performance data to refine tactics and inform editorial decisions
- Pitching and developing new social franchises, video series, columns, and recurring content
- Collaborating with features, culture, and news teams on behind-the-scenes content capture and live event coverage (red carpets, award shows, premieres)
- Identifying emerging platforms and determining Vulture's strategic approach to new social channels
- Building and managing a network of freelance social producers, particularly outside New York
- Managing departmental budgets for talent, travel, and freelancer support
Required qualifications:
- Extensive social media experience, ideally at a digital media company
- Proven track record growing audiences and producing distinctive creative work
- Strong people management skills with experience leading direct reports
- Data literacy: ability to parse analytics, track KPIs, and report insights to leadership
- Proficiency with Adobe Suite (Premiere), Figma, Meta Suite, and social scheduling tools
- Deep entertainment and cultural knowledge with genuine enthusiasm for media, film, television, music, and gaming
- Excellent communication, time management, and prioritization skills
- Ability to work nights and weekends for live event coverage
- Collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
