January is a fintech company transforming consumer finance by helping financial institutions streamline collections and offering borrowers compassionate solutions to regain financial stability. As Head of Security Engineering, you will report directly to the VP of Engineering and lead the company's security strategy and execution. You'll define and own the security engineering strategy, identifying real risks and determining appropriate mitigation approaches. You'll hire, mentor, and grow the security engineering team as the function scales. Key responsibilities include: - Leading identity and access management across all systems - Directing security monitoring, detection, and incident response capabilities - Owning the security posture for AI in both products and internal tools - Managing cloud security architecture and guardrails, including data isolation across the multi-tenant platform - Driving end-to-end vulnerability management and building security into the development lifecycle - Partnering with the compliance function on SOC2, PCI, and other regulatory requirements You bring 6+ years of security experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role. You have hands-on software or security engineering background with direct experience building and running cloud security, identity and access, and detection systems. You've worked in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, payments) and have a track record of setting security strategy and driving execution at early- or growth-stage companies. You're a strong communicator and collaborator who builds trust across Engineering, Product, and other teams. Preferred: understanding of AI/ML systems and their security risks. You'll step into gaps proactively, make decisions with incomplete information, and iterate quickly.
