Range is an AI-powered wealth management platform transforming financial services by unifying investments, taxes, retirement planning, and estate management in a single intuitive system. The company is backed by Scale, Gradient Ventures, and Cathay Innovations and is in hyper-growth mode.
You will report directly to the CEO and own Range's external narrative and public relations strategy end-to-end. This is a builder's role with founder-level visibility and real consequence.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and own Range's earned media program from the ground up, including narrative development, reporter relationships, and sustained coverage strategy in AI-powered wealth management.
- Develop the message house, fact base, and boilerplate used across Sales, Recruiting, and other functions.
- Build and maintain relationships with reporters covering fintech, wealth management, AI, and personal finance to generate sustained coverage independent of funding announcements.
- Run announcement strategy for funding, product, partnership, and people news, managing embargoes, exclusives, and compliance review timelines.
- Establish crisis and issues management capability, including severity tiers, named owners, pre-cleared holding statements, escalation paths, and tabletop exercises with leadership.
- Partner with Compliance and Legal to build a communications review standard that balances speed with regulatory rigor for an SEC-registered investment adviser, including substantiation of AI and performance claims.
- Prepare and protect spokespeople through media training, briefing documents, and developing a bench of voices beyond founders.
- Own agency relationships, budget, and performance measurement (share of voice, message pull-through, coverage quality).
Requirements:
- 12+ years in communications or public relations with meaningful in-house experience at a high-growth company.
- Experience in financial services, fintech, or another regulated, high-scrutiny category.
- Track record of landing sustained tier-one and trade coverage through personally built relationships, not solely through agencies.
- Real crisis management experience—you have written statements while stories were moving and can discuss lessons learned.
- Working fluency in regulatory constraints on financial communications (SEC marketing rule, claims substantiation, testimonial and performance rules) with judgment to find compliant versions of good stories.
- Credibility with founders and executives, including standing to push back when warranted.
- Builder's instinct—comfortable operating as a team of one with agency support in year one, writing plans and press releases yourself.
- Genuine fluency in AI and technology; reporters will assess your understanding of the product within one call.
