Substack is seeking a Head of News & Politics Partnerships to lead growth and strategy for the News & Politics category on the platform. In this director-level role, you will oversee a team within the Partnerships organization, managing budget, external relationships, and execution of strategic initiatives to bring news and politics industry leaders to Substack.
Key responsibilities include recruiting and advising top political and news creators; developing scalable programs to activate creators and drive user acquisition; partnering with internal teams (communications, product, data) to refine the creator experience; enhancing outreach strategies and onboarding processes; supporting marketing and brand initiatives; and traveling for team building and strategic meetings.
You will be a market leader in the creator economy, comfortable interfacing with writers, reporters, politicians, and industry leaders. Success means political news, community moments, and cultural conversations happen on Substack.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of professional experience in news, publishing, or politics; proven team management experience; strong written and verbal communication skills; a robust professional network ("rolodex"); comfort with data and analytics; and deep familiarity with the evolving tech and media landscape. You should be a scrappy, innovative self-starter comfortable with shifting priorities in a fast-paced startup environment, able to set ambitious strategy while executing tactically.
