Exa is building a search engine for the AI era, having raised $250M in Series C funding (led by a16z) at a $2.2B valuation. The company powers AI agents, Fortune 500s, and AI labs with its Search API, disrupting an industry unchanged since the 1990s. The ~100-person team is based primarily in San Francisco and includes talent from Harvard, MIT, Meta, Google Research, and YC.
As Head of Marketing Operations, you will build and scale the operational engine behind Exa's marketing function. This is a builder role at an AI-first company—you won't simply administer tools, but design AI-powered workflows that enable a lean marketing team to operate at massive scale.
You will own the complete marketing technology stack (selection, implementation, integration, data governance), including marketing automation, enrichment, and Salesforce integration. You'll design and deploy AI-powered workflows using Claude, Clay, Zapier, and custom tools to automate high-frequency tasks and evangelize AI adoption across the GTM team.
You own the full lifecycle from anonymous visitor through closed-won: lead scoring, MQL/PQL definitions, SLA enforcement, routing, enrichment, nurture, and sales handoff. You'll establish attribution methodology, reporting, and analytics dashboards that leadership trusts, including pipeline attribution, channel ROI, and quarterly performance reviews.
You drive the marketing operating rhythm: quarterly planning, goal tracking, weekly business reviews, budget and vendor management, and prioritization frameworks. You own data hygiene, privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA, emerging US state laws), email deliverability, and governance models that keep the database trustworthy at scale.
Success is measured by marketing-sourced pipeline reported with confidence and audit-ready definitions; full funnel instrumentation and visibility; lead scoring and routing driving measurable conversion lift; faster campaign launch times through better playbooks and automation; alignment across Marketing, Sales, and RevOps on data and definitions; and real-time leadership visibility into program status, spend, and performance.
You should have 6+ years in marketing operations with meaningful time at a high-growth B2B startup, experience building marketing ops from scratch or replatforming (ideally at developer-first or PLG companies), and deep fluency in HubSpot or Marketo, Salesforce, and at least one BI tool (Looker, Tableau, Sigma, Hex). You've shipped automations and internal tools using LLMs and workflow platforms—not just used ChatGPT. You have a track record owning attribution, lead scoring, routing, and data quality at scale, and experience running planning cadences, budget, and vendor management alongside marketing leadership.
