Rain is a global stablecoin payments platform serving enterprises, neobanks, platforms, developers, and AI agents. As a Visa and Mastercard Principal Member, Rain enables instant movement, storage, and use of stablecoins through payment cards, rewards, on/offramps, wallets, and cross-border rails. The company is backed by top-tier fintech and crypto investors, recently closing a $250M Series C at a $1.95B valuation. You will lead a ~30-person engineering organization focused on quality and technical excellence rather than headcount growth. The role emphasizes producing output that appears to come from a much larger team by raising the engineering bar, tightening systems that move real money, and remaining deeply engaged in code and architecture. Key responsibilities include: setting and owning Rain's engineering quality bar across system design, code review, testing, observability, and technical decision-making; providing hands-on technical leadership through active codebase participation, critical PR reviews, and architectural decisions; owning technical strategy across card issuing, wallets, ledger, money movement, and onchain settlement; driving reliability and scalability through SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning for 10x growth; building security and compliance into the platform by design; increasing engineering velocity through CI/CD and tooling improvements; and developing a high-performing organization through coaching and hiring. Ideal candidates have 10+ years building production software with 4+ years leading engineers at companies where systems handled real consequences. You must be demonstrably hands-on, having written or reviewed meaningful production code within the last year. Deep experience with distributed backend systems, data modeling, consistency, idempotency, and operational reliability is essential. A track record of raising engineering bars, carrying a pager during serious outages, and strong hiring and coaching instincts are critical. Experience in payments, fintech, banking infrastructure, or domains requiring regulatory correctness is highly valued. Bonus experience includes card issuing, Visa/Mastercard networks, stablecoins, onchain settlement, SOC 2, or PCI DSS compliance.
