Lumafield builds industrial X-ray CT scanners and physical AI software that enable engineers to inspect manufactured products without destructive testing. The company serves manufacturers in medical devices, batteries, automotive, electronics, aerospace & defense, and consumer products. Founded in 2019 and backed by $75M in Series C funding (led by IVP), Lumafield has achieved significant media presence in outlets like the Financial Times, NYT Wirecutter, and The Verge, and has built owned channels including the Scan of the Month series, Go/No-Go podcast, and viral social media presence. As Head of Communications & Brand, you will lead the company's narrative and brand strategy to reach VPs, C-level leaders in engineering and manufacturing, investors, policymakers, and prospective employees. This is a senior leadership role managing a growing team of two experienced direct reports with the opportunity to hire a third immediately. Key responsibilities include: - Developing and articulating the company narrative for reporters, enterprise buyers, and investors - Securing earned media coverage in top-tier business and technology press, leveraging personal networks and relationships with journalists and creators - Building and amplifying the CEO platform through ghostwriting, interview prep, op-eds, podcasts, and speaking engagements - Identifying and securing speaking opportunities and conference placements in physical AI, advanced manufacturing, and defense-industrial technology - Directing the Go/No-Go podcast and First Article owned editorial properties to drive business engagement - Setting creative direction for video, social media, brand identity, and website experience - Managing and developing a high-performing communications team First-year outcomes include: securing company-level features in top-tier outlets with a repeatable cadence of scan-driven stories; establishing a working CEO platform with predictable weekly visibility; building owned editorial that drives engagement with target audiences; and developing a functioning three-person team executing an ambitious editorial calendar. Requirements: - Minimum 10 years of experience in communications, marketing, or related fields (exceptional earlier-career candidates considered) - Demonstrated track record of published work you personally created that changed perception of a technically complex company, with measurable results - Established media relationships with reporters, hosts, newsletter writers, and podcast producers you can contact directly - Ability to learn complex technical domains quickly; no manufacturing background required, but genuine intellectual curiosity about how products are made - Proven effective management of creative teams (employees, contractors, or agencies) producing outstanding work - Bonus: experience as the voice/ghostwriter for a founder or executive; track record building owned media properties (podcasts, newsletters, publications); existing access in physical AI, advanced manufacturing, or defense-industrial communities
