Anthropic is seeking a Head of Accounting Policy to lead the company's technical accounting function as it scales toward public-company readiness. You will own the accounting policy framework, establish and maintain US GAAP policies across all significant business areas, and serve as the lead technical advisor on novel transactions including usage-based revenue arrangements, large compute and infrastructure commitments, complex financing and equity instruments, and M&A activity.
Key responsibilities include building a whitepaper and position-memo discipline to document accounting conclusions with auditor and regulator scrutiny in mind; leading technical discussions with external auditors and the SEC on complex issues; preparing the company for SEC-style financial statements and disclosures; monitoring and leading adoption of new FASB standards and SEC rules; partnering early with Legal, Tax, FP&A, and deal teams to shape accounting consequences before transactions close; advising on equity, financing, and capital-markets transactions; building and developing a high-caliber technical accounting team; supporting reporting to leadership and the Audit Committee on significant accounting positions; designing controls over complex-area accounting in support of a SOX-ready environment; and representing the company externally in comment letters and engagement with standard setters.
You will work closely with the Controller, CFO, Legal, Tax, and deal teams, often being the first accountant in the room when novel transaction types are being designed. This is a high-judgment, high-trust role requiring deep expertise in US GAAP, SEC reporting, and the ability to research, conclude, and defend positions on complex accounting issues.
Minimum qualifications include an active CPA license, public accounting tenure at a top firm reaching at least Director/Managing Director/Partner level (or national office Senior Manager selected into the SEC's Professional Accounting Fellow program), deep US GAAP expertise, strong command of SEC reporting requirements, experience leading a technical accounting or accounting policy function at a high-growth technology company, and demonstrated ability to research and defend complex accounting positions with external auditors.
Preferred qualifications include 15+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience, service at the SEC (particularly the Professional Accounting Fellow program or comparable senior roles), FASB/EITF exposure, public speaking on technical accounting topics, national office experience at a major firm, and experience preparing a private company for public-company-grade reporting.
