Shepherd is a technology-driven Managing General Underwriter (MGU) transforming commercial Property & Casualty insurance for high-hazard industries. The company raised $42M in Series B funding (March 2026, total $60M+) and is building a modern risk platform combining underwriting expertise, data, and automation. As Growth Lead, you'll build and own Shepherd's growth engine focused on the retail brokerage channel—the primary distribution channel for commercial insurance. The role is positioned as a "Marketing Engineer, Growth" operating like a growth engineer at a frontier AI company, but applied to commercial insurance. Key responsibilities: - Own paid media and account-based marketing (ABM) end-to-end: audience strategy, channel mix, budgets, creative testing, and performance optimization with focus on converting broker activations into submissions. - Build broker lifecycle infrastructure: design lifecycle journeys, signal-based triggers, intelligent sequences, orchestration, and wiring to ensure brokers receive the right touch at the right time. - Improve conversion across the funnel: build and iterate landing pages, forms, website flows; own experimentation and conversion rate optimization (CRO). - Implement GEO/AI search infrastructure: structured data, schema markup, entity infrastructure so Shepherd appears where brokers and insureds search, including AI-native surfaces. - Select and wire marketing automation stack (MAP, enrichment, tracking); build dashboards showing performance, especially for paid and ABM. - Produce performance creative: self-recorded explainers, product demos, landing pages, ad creative; coordinate with specialists for higher-end production. - Drive experimentation velocity: continuously test audiences, offers, creative, landing pages, channels; translate results into business actions. You'll report to the Head of Marketing. The role is hands-on, shipping improvements weekly, with high agency to execute independently without waiting for engineering support. Commercial insurance retail brokerage is a digitally underdeveloped market where standard B2B growth tactics (SEO/SEM, ABM, email, paid ads, intent signals, AI-search visibility) are underutilized—creating significant opportunity.
